Thistledown Velvet ant

I saw a little white chicken feather walking down the path - - wait a minute! This one has legs and it is walking by itself. Well, it was just the cutest little insect imaginable. My naturalist partner, Glenn, identified it as a velvet ant. So we looked it up in the bug book and it is a Thistledown Velvet Ant,, which is actually a wasp which has a nasty sting and predates other wasps. Note: the one i saw was MUCH cuter than this picture. Just to show the amazing variety of life in the desert.
